Kamui is famous amongst locals in Asahikawa and Central Hokkaido as providing a ski experience unlike that of the other big ski areas in Japan. Kamui is a ski resort set on its own, with no hotels or lodges located at the base. This means there are not many crowds with skiers mostly being tourists staying in Asahikawa's major hotels, locals or skiers staying for extended periods in Furano and shuttling over for the day.

The 7 lifts at Kamui access a great deal of varied terrain with enough to suit every kind of skier. The ski area has no night skiing so with grooming conducted before nightfall, any overnight snow accumulates nicely on the wide open runs.

Kamui has wide open cruisers as well as the most open ski area policy in Japan. Kamui does not restrict any entry into the trees or un-patrolled areas. Skiers must enter with caution, but the terrain at Kamui is completely open for all skiers and snowboarders. Fantastic powder accumulates in the tree areas with rolling terrain and some small steep sections.

Kamui provides a great deal of varied terrain which suits everyone from beginners with long wide cruisers to intermediates with some steeper groomed and powder courses as well as spacious trees. Advanced skiers will love the open and free policy of the Kamui patrol that does not stop skiers or boarders from skiing out-of-bounds in some of the best tree skiing in Hokkaido.
