Cherry blossoms bloom every year in early May with the lingering snow-capped mountains in the background. The Rhododendron dauricum, the flower of Furano which only grows in Hokkaido also is in bloom between May and June.

Every flower garden is at its peak. German Iris, pansies, columbine and tons of other flowers bloom at the same time, and lavender reaches its prime season. During this season you will also see white and pink flowers of the potato plants.

From mid to late September, the colors of the trees begin to change on Furanodake and Tokachidake. Along the Hanabito Road marigolds, poppies, snapdragons, zinnias, wavy leaf sea-lavender, blue salvia and other flowers bloom energetically and proudly.

In early October fall foliage is in its prime even in the city and in Rokugo District. The flower season enters its last chapter. Cosmos, yellow mustard and begonias gently sway in the autumn wind. Whispers of a first snowfall can be heard from Tokachidake.

The snow is here to stay in the city, and winter truly begins. All the flower gardens, pastures and mountains are now transformed into a white wonderland. The sight of small foot prints left on the snowy fields by squirrels and ermines remind us of the wildlife here in the northland.

Around this time, the temperature is its lowest in Hokkaido, and in Furano and other inland areas certain natural phenomena can be seen. You may encounter "Hoar frost" which is snow crystals that cover barren trees, or "diamond dust", moisture in the air that crystallizes and sparkles in the sunlight. Both of these fantastic phenomena are possible only in sub-zero temperatures.

During the dead of winter, Furano becomes the perfect winter resort with all sorts of winter sports and activities to fill your day. Many events and festivals that allow locals to mingle with tourists take place.
